ABB ”flash-charging” buses go live in Geneva

Two articulated electric buses using ABB’s 20-second flash-charging technology have gone into service in the city of Geneva. The buses, the first of their kind in the world, take less than one second to connect to the charging point on an overhead high-power charging contact when they pull into selected stops, topping up the batteries while passengers get on and off. The complete fleet of 12 emission-free buses links the airport with the city’s suburbs, and can save up to 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide on a line covering 600,000 kilometers per year.
